How To Get Rid Of Ants Without Killing Them

By Steven Chang

Back at my parents’ house I remember we would occasionally have surprise visits by an army of ants in our kitchen. We have tried many ways to get rid of ants and have killed many to no avail. The best way and how to get rid of ants is really simple – just remove the food source!

You see, we have tried those ants killer stuff that you buy from the store where you lay them around ant-infested areas and guess what, they don’t really work! Yeah, they sure a couple of them, but there are just so much more ants than can be killed. Then we have tried spraying DDT along the ant trail killing massive ants at a time hoping to scare the rest of them away. And guess what? They come back and form another trail!

So how do you get rid of ants? You really have to look into why ants where there at first place. Ants are simple-minded 6-legged (or 8? I never really looked at one closely) insects that run around and hunt for food. Typically household ants will especially like to visit your kitchen and your trash bins to see if there are food they can feed on or carry back to their dungeons.

Having that said, the best way to get rid of ants is to simply remove the food source. So next time before you spray that can of DDT or try washing or wiping that army of ants, trace the trail of the ants and follow them to the food source. You may be surprised that it is a piece of cake crumb that was left on the kitchen counter that you forgot to clean up or that delicious (to ants, at least) leftover dinner you had last night. Once you have removed the food source, the ants will magically disappear.

And guess what? It works everytime!
